I spawn all the local hermits

Her: "I have no friends."

Me: "Why is that?"

Her: "Because you never let me go places. I have no social life."

Me: "You're 13, what's there to do?"

Her: "Hang out at the football games, hang out at the movies, go to parties, text, have a myspace, go shopping."

Me: "Have you been invited to these places?"

Her: "No, because they know you won't let me. You're too over-protective, just like you were with Sutton."

Me: "So I'm the reason you have no friends?"

Her: "Yes."

Me: "Really? Well, I'm okay with that. You're not going those places or doing those things. And it's going to be okay; you'll have friends in spite of it."

Her: "I hate my life."

Me: "I know, babe, I know."

My mum "never" let me do anything either Reagan. I didn't go to parties or hang out at cool places.

I guess i turned out fine?

Hang in there.

Now I think about it we spent lots of time at tap classes (Mum was my teacher), ballet, jazz and other dancing, music lessons, doing assignments, making costumes for school, takling about stuff and other things.

I'm ok with how much time i spent not being cool because it turned out that my friends weren't always there for me and my mum has been.

Thanks MUM! (and other mum's who spend hours of their time on their children and with their children)

She looks JUST LIKE YOU in that picture...

Someday, little Rea...yes, I said little, you will SO appreciate the fact that your mom didn't let you run around like a kid with no parents. I promise it's not really the end of the world. I know it feels that way.

Believe me, I have the same mom your mom has...

...I also know this didn't make you feel any better at all. Sorry sweet girl!

My parents didn't let me do anything either. And I am so glad. Now.

When I wouldn't let my son watch a show he said, "I hate it that you love me so much." That's when you know you are doing SOMETHING right!

My second daughter was found crying at school... she is in grade 6. The supervision aide asked her "What's the matter Gayle?"

"My mom won't let me play with my friends!" she wailed.

The aide was so happy to hear that, considering her "friends" at the time were literally little thieves who got banned from the nearest corner store.

I was more impressed that she was listening! I was sorry I made her cry, but she now has cooler people to hang with.
